Apple may be mulling a budget phone next year which may be called the iPhone SE2 or the iPhone XE 2.
The sequel to the iPhone SE was rumored quite strongly throughout 2018, but it never materialized. Then the rumors stopped. Now, it has surfaced again, this time with the prediction that the phone will have a sub-5 inch display and other specs you usually find in the budget segment phones.
Apple’s Desire to Have a Budget Phone
It cannot be denied that Apple had always wanted to be present in different price points as far as smartphones are concerned. The iPhones are priced close to $1000 or above. The iPhone XR was definitely an attempt towards this direction with their price being around $700. The iPhone SE filled a certain slot or a requirement in the market. It catered to those phone users who liked a small screen that could be reached with one hand and kept comfortably in their pocket or handbag.
This section has been hoping that Apple will bring the iPhone SE back in some form. The rumors suggest that the phone will sport a 4.8 inch display, a smaller sized battery and a USB-C type cable. On the USB-C type connector, earlier rumors had suggested the change will come in this year’s iPhone 11 and the other models. This was later found to be not true since the case maker clarified that there will be no change in the type of connector.
Meanwhile More Rumors on the iPhone 12
You might have been reading a lot on the expected specs and features of the 2020 iPhones, the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Max and the iPhone 12 XR. In continuation of that, it is now speculated that Apple may introduce a new Touch ID which can unlock the phone from any part of the screen. These will also be the 5G enabled phones from Apple for the first time. Reports say all the models will be 5G phones. Apple may even do what Samsung has done with the Galaxy Note 10, having non-5G and 5G options both.
The only question about the Apple iPhone SE2 or iPhone XE2 that everyone has in their minds is if Apple does want to compete in the market, then it should look at what the other brands are offering in their devices which are priced in the $300 to $400 range.
September 2020 may still be very far away.
