ASUS Android Marshmallow Update Coming with Trimmed Bloat

Android Marshmallow

Its good news for owners of ASUS products as the company has announced that it will be pushing out Android Marshmallow updates to a number of its devices, including the much talked-about ASUS Zenfone 2.

In 2015, the Zenfone 2 was, actually, among the most talked-about smartphones in its $300 price range. Featuring an Intel chipset instead of the usual Qualcomm-made Snapdragon that many OEMs use, this device and a bunch of others from the same manufacturer are now being lined up for an Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade.

The much anticipated Android operating system brings quite a number of goodies to the fold, with the most notable ones being the Google Now on Tap as well as Doze feature. However, OEMs usually add or remove one or two capabilities from this OS in order to customize it in accordance to their available software and hardware.

One thing that resulted in ASUS Zenfone 2 being talked about in 2015 was the amount of bloatware it came in with, despite being a very capable smartphone in terms of performance. There is good news, though, as ASUS will reportedly be cutting down on the b bloatware that comes along with Android Marshmallow update. The company will instead default to some Google apps, but this will not affect all of its apps.

According to the latest reports, the new Marshmallow update will get rid of ASUS’ Messenger, Calendar and Mail apps and instead rely on Google’s Messenger, Calendar as well as Gmail for the same purposes. However, users must, first of all, do a factory reset of the phone before this change can be effected on their ASUS devices. If you still want to keep using the bunch of apps ASUS will be eliminating when the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is availed, they’ll still be available for download from the Google Play Store.

ASUS Android Marshmallow updates to roll out in Q2 2016

According to ASUS, the newly announced changes will start showing up on its devices somewhere in Q2 2016. While this might look ages away, you’ll be surprised when April 1 comes around in just a few weeks’ time. Since both Google and ASUS need to test this update and certification done, it was always meant to take some time before the update comes out. But at least, we now know it is coming and when it’s here, we’ll let you know.

In addition to ASUS Zenfone 2, other ASUS devices that will be receiving the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates include ASUS Padfone S, Zenfone 2 Deluxe/Deluxe Special Edition/Laser, Zenfone Max, Zenfone Selfie as well as Zenfone Zoom.
