Launching the ‘Zenvolution’ – the YouTube Teaser

The Asus Zenfone 3 series is expected to launch on May 31st at the Computex 2016, where the new series will be officially unveiled. A teaser video from Asus confirms that three mobile phones, the ZenFone 3, the ZenFone 3 Deluxe and the ZenFone 3 Max. The teaser shows three mobile phones, with the taglines Clarity, Desire and Unlimited. Earlier, it was reported that the Zen 3 series would launch some time in June 2016 and was aimed at the mid range market. Jerry Shen, the CEO of Asus, also stated that Qualcomm SoCs would power ninety percent of the series and ten percent of the devices would have MediaTekSocs.

Based on the fact that the previous ZenFone and the ZenFone 2 series were launched in the first part of 2014 and 2015 respectively, it can safely be assumed that the ZenFone 3 series will also be launched in the early part of 2016.

Tipped Features

One of the top tipped features of this series is that it comes with a fingerprint scanner. The phones will have metal frames and the screen size is expected to be large.

The Max Variant

Shen has also hinted that the Max variant would constitute two thirds of the total ZenFone 3 series phones.

Design Rumors – Zenfone 3

Red Dot 21 is a website connected with product designs and according to this site, it is rumored that the ZenFone 3 comes with a 2.5D glass on front and the back panels and has an aluminum frame that is curved. It has also been mentioned that the phone has USB Type C port and fingerprint sensor, along with a laser auto focus and LED flash module, both in the front and in the rear. The primary camera is a rectangular one and not circular. The phone will come in three colors, White along with Black and Gold.

USB Type C Port

Many smartphones are now moving towards this type of USB and Asus is also making the move. According to Jonney Shih, the chairman of the company, it seems to be the way to go. When asked why the ZenFone 2 did not have this feature, he mentioned the cost problem, but now it seems to be the right timing to go ahead with the new Type C Port. The company did not want to be aggressively ahead, as that could sometimes spell disaster. It followed a policy of aggressiveness combined with practicality.

ZenFone 3 Deluxe

As for the 3 Deluxe variant, it is fully made of metal and there is no compromise in the design, such as antenna lines and so on. There is a physical button for Home beneath the display and 2 capacitive buttons found on each side.

Other Touted Features

The new ZenFone 3 series also comes with a 64 Bit, Hexa core processor and a full HD display of 5.5”. It is supported by the Android Lollipop version and has a camera of 13 MP at the back and 5 MP for the front. In addition, the battery will be powered at 4000 mAh and is aimed at the mid range segment, countering phones from Samsung and HTC.
