The LG Watch Style and Sport may be the first smartwatches to come powered by Android Wear 2.0 out of the box, but this OS has already started making its way to other wearables.
Users of ASUS ZenWatch 2 and ZenWatch 3 will, however, not be happy with the latest development. According to ASUS North America, there won’t be an update to Android Wear 2.0 anytime soon, rather, the OS will start hitting the smartwatches later in Q2 2017. There is no specific date as to when this will start, but since the OS is already rolling out and the company has confirmed that it’ll indeed be coming in Q2, the only option here is to wait.
What is more disappointing about this new development is that both ASUS ZenWatch 2 and ZenWatch 3 were confirmed to get the new OS OTA update a few weeks ago, something that led to one concerned Twitter user – @jclendineng – demanding to know when the Taiwanese company will be releasing the same OS to the American market. Well, there you have it – Q2 2017! But since the update’s specific release date is not mentioned, you can expect Android Wear 2.0 to start rolling out to your ZenWatch 2 or ZenWatch 3 anywhere between April 1 and June 30.
Hey Joel — the Android Wear 2.0 roll-out start date was last week, however, AW 2.0 will not come to the ZW 2/3 till early Q2.

Meanwhile, there will be more Android Wear 2.0 devices coming into the market thanks to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017. This event will kick off tomorrow, but the likes of Samsung, HMD Global, TCL and Huawei are already on the ground trying to get the early attention of those at the event. Apparently, Huawei has plans to unveil a new Watch 2 which comes preinstalled with this OS.
While only Huawei has been rumored to be coming to Barcelona with an Android Wear 2.0 device, there should be more smartwatches coming in later in the year based on this OS. We’ll let you know when they do! As for those interested in the Huawei Watch 2, details will be available sooner than later!
