Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is finally coming to AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S6 Active. The update has been coming for months now, but with the carrier’s track record when it comes to rolling out software updates, such delays are not a major surprise.
Still, many believe in the idea that it is better late than never. Well, if you are one of them, you can now happily update the firmware of your AT&T exclusive Galaxy S6 Active from Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
Samsung had listed the Galaxy S6 Active as one of the devices that will be updated with Android Marshmallow, however, the South Korean tech giant has been heavily focused on updating its flagships. The S6 Active can still be considered a flagship when looking at what it packs, however, the device’s design tweaks make it a better match for those who live demanding lifestyles. But being a carrier-exclusive phone, it always meant that the phone will see some significant delays when it comes to receiving software updates.
The Marshmallow update started hitting Galaxy S6 Active devices on July 5, but since it is coming in as an OTA, it will probably take some time before it finally gets to all S6 Active units in the country. This will bring to and end more than 5 months of waiting since the update started showing up on Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
If you have been bracing yourself for this update, you probably have a rough idea of what’s awaiting. For starters, the Galaxy S6 Active Marshmallow update weighs about 1.5GB. When compared to other Marshmallow updates on Samsung Galaxy devices, this is one of the largest file sizes. As a result, it is recommended that you get it via a Wi-Fi internet connection unless you are using an unlimited data plan.
The Marshmallow update also brings quite a number of new features, but fixes and improvements, hence the size. The most notable ones include battery manager Doze mode, Google Now on Tap, Android Pay, enhanced apps permission system, App Standby as well as adoptable storage, just to name but a few. Users of the updated version will also be able to enjoy Wi-Fi calling.
As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy S6 Active Marshmallow update is coming in as an OTA. So, if you have not seen the OTA notification yet, there is room for checking for the update’s availability manually. This needs you to visit the Settings app of your S6 Active and while in there, scroll to the bottom and hit the About Device option. This will open up a page with the Software Update option, which upon hitting will allow you check for the availability of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow download for your Galaxy S6 Active.
