As a studio, Gearbox Studios has invested a lot of time, money and effort in building this franchise. As things stand right now, the studio seems to have plans to offer long-term support to the newest entry in the series.

Boderlands 4

The roadmap for Borderland 4, which has just been unveiled, gives one a good idea about the kind of content, both free and paid, that will be offered in the game. Some of the seasonal events and Invincible raid bosses will be available for free. Fans will have several interesting things to look forward to, including a Weekly Wild Card mission, a Black Market Machine and Big Encore Boss.

If somebody pays for additional content, they will get Bounty Packs comprising Vault Cards and several cosmetics. The larger story packs will offer them a wide range of maps and questlines to choose from. In the first quarter of 2026, players will have the opportunity to obtain Pearlescent weapons.

Borderlands franchise fans have longed for the comeback of Pearlescent guns for a very long time now. One saw these guns last featured in Borderlands 2. Interestingly, the inspiration for these weapons came from a glitch in the first Borderlands game, where one witnessed the overlapping of white text and orange text of Legendaries. This, in turn, resulted in Legendary weapons assuming a cyan color. While these guns came across as fancier-looking Legendary guns, they did not offer higher strength.

Players would end up spending a great amount of time farming the massive grab referred to as Crawmerax the Invincible, which many know of as the original raid boss in Borderlands. They would do so with the hope that one of these weapons would drop sometime. A gamer could take several clears to get their hands on just one of the rare Pearlescents. As per the estimations made by players, the overall drop rate is between 1/500 and 1/1000. Their rarity has greatly contributed to their being special.

At the moment, one does not have much information on the way in which Borderlands 4 will be handling Pearlescents. Many, however, are celebrating the fact that a tease by Randy Pitchford contributed to this announcement. What fans know right now is that Pearls has been designed as a free addition and players would find the process of tracing them to be tough.

While taking into account all the aforementioned information, players should remember to keep their expectations in check. A vast number of Pearls is not what players should be expecting right now. Through the entire life cycle of Borderlands 4, one can certainly expect to see close to a dozen cyan guns.
