Citroen has revealed a new all-electric van which justifies its name by being a very spacious car with dedicated rear seats and a host of other improvements.
The E-Berlingo Multispace is an all-electric MPV scheduled to get launched in the UK. The car is largely based on the electric Berlingo Citroen launched earlier. The brand’s designers have used the same platform and overall finish but replaced the loading bay with rear seats. The addition significantly improves the seating capacity of the car and the rear area now has windows to ensure the passengers don’t feel suffocated during long journeys.
The Multispace van offers best in-class loading area when all seats are folded. It can store up to 3,000 liters of cargo making it the best choice for long hauling. When all seats are in place, it can store up to 675 liters which is not huge but still should be enough space to keep the passengers’ baggage. The MPV is powered by a 200Nm electric motor capable of delivering 66 bhp. There are two battery packs mounted which when combined produces about 22.5kWh of charge.

According to a statement by Citroen, the all-electric E-Berlingo Multispace can go up to 106 miles on a single charge. The batteries support quick charging technology as they can get charged up to 50 percent in just 15 minutes. It takes about 30 minutes for the batteries to be charged 80 percent. These numbers are applicable only when they are connected to a quick charging port.

Adding up to the experience is the van’s compatibility with a dedicated smartphone app. The app can be used to heat or cool the cabin before you get in. It can also be used to remotely check the battery level of the MPV before planning a short trip. The dashboard has a 7-inch infotainment display which also supports satellite navigation, Mirror link to connect your smartphone and Bluetooth Connectivity.
The pricing seems to be done right as the Citroen E-Berlingo Multispace will retail for £21,750 excluding VAT charges. Being an electric car, it will receive government grant and the pricing may not vary much making it a good deal for people who need large MPVs to accommodate multiple passengers or haul large baggage to different locations. The spacing, design and pricing are done right that should give Citroen the edge against any potential competition in the near future.
