The Computex electronic show 2016 that was held in Japan has seen ASUS reveal a series of new products, among them a brand new ASUS ZenBook 3 Ultrabook as well as three new ZenFone phones.
With the new ASUS ZenBook 3 Ultrabook, you will have yourself an extremely light laptop that weighs just 910 grams, which is slightly lighter than the 12-inch Apple MacBook. However, the Taiwanese company’s product has a slightly larger screen size of 12.5 inches when compared to its closest rival. According to ASUS, the ZenBook 3 manages an 82% screen-to-body ratio. It gets even better as the screen is protected from breaking and catching scratches thanks to Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 technology.
When compared to a vast number of notebooks out there, the new ZenBook 3 Ultrabook has one of the thinnest bezels, something that makes the device a standout in the pack.
With this ultralight laptop, ASUS seems to be sending out a warning message to the likes of Apple, Samsung and Microsoft as far as the ultraportable world is concerned. This device is truly going to give the big names in the industry a run for their money, especially when more things like material design and even specs are considered.
The ZenBook 3 Ultrabook is made of an aerospace-grade aluminum alloy that beats the magnesium alloy used on other notebooks, something that played a huge role in the device’s ultra-lightness. Under the hood, the laptop comes with a low energy Intel Core i7 SoC that is supported by a massive RAM of 16GB and has USB Type-C on board. As for the storage, you get up to 1TB SSD and ASUS claims that the battery can push you through 9 hours on a single charge, yet getting it charged from 0-60% takes less than an hour.
While the new ASUS ZenBook 3 Ultrabook is ultralight, it doesn’t match the Lenovo LaVie Z HZ550, which also has a larger screen of 13.3 inches. At the moment, there are no details regarding the pricing of this portable laptop, but it might be slightly lower than the asking price of the LaVie Z HZ550, which is $1699.
ASUS ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Ultra and ZenFone 3 Deluxe
ASUS did not end the show with the ZenBook 3 Ultrabook, but there are also three new phones to showcase. There have been reports of a new ASUS ZenFone 3 coming, but the company went ahead to add two more handsets to the rumored model – ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone 3 Ultra.
The standard ZenFone 3 has a 5.5-inch Full HD display panel while under the hood it packs a mid-range Snapdragon 625 SoC – a chipset that saw the light back in February this year. There is basically no difference in the screen size of the following up model – the ZenFone 3 Deluxe. However, you get better photography from this device’s 23MP rear snapper that is made by Sony. The sensor is equipped with f/2.0 aperture, OIS and it can record 4K videos.
As for the ZenFone 3 Ultra, you get an ultra-large screen of 6.8 inches, but the phone sticks to the same Full HD panel as well as the same camera specs as the Deluxe variant. However, you get a massive 4600mAh battery unit, which can also be used as a power bank.
ASUS went for the latest USB Type-C port for data transfer and charging on all three handsets. You also get a fingerprint scanner on the trio’s rear.
