There are still doubts on whether the next phone will be called the Xiaomi Mi 5s or if Xiaomi has other things in mind, but still, the company has confirmed that indeed there is a successor to the current flagship, Xiaomi Mi 5, set to be announced in the next few days.
The Chinese tech giant, which came to prominence due to its premium-looking smartphones that carry high-end specs but are priced affordably, has released a teaser that intends to spark excitement in fans waiting for the new handset. The new Xiaomi Mi 5s teaser says very little about this Mi 5 successor, but still, we can gather some info from the same.
For starters, the company has confirmed that the new Xiaomi Mi 5s will come with a ceramic body. In addition, it is possible that the phone could come with a tapered rear. If you can remember, the ceramic-bodied Xiaomi Mi 5 carried higher specs than the standard Mi 5. Whether the company wants to make this its standard for the upcoming Mi flagships is still unclear.
Despite the few details available about the Xiaomi Mi 5s through the company’s teaser, other leaks have been doing rounds with details of the expected specs. If they are to be trusted, the Mi 5s will pack a 5.5-inch AMOLED display screen that has a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Under the hood, Xiaomi will go for a Snapdragon 821 SoC and pair it with either 4GB or 6GB RAM. Don’t get your hopes too high in terms of software, for Xiaomi will reportedly ship the phone with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
In terms of the battery capacity, reports point towards a 3700mAh unit, with support for fast charging also expected. The rumored storage options are 64GB for the base model and 128GB for the high-end model. It is unclear what will happen with the 32GB variant, but it is still possible for the company to come in with one in this category, similar to the Xiaomi Mi 5.
Camera-wise, reports are emerging that the company may include a dual-lens camera on the back of the Xiaomi Mi 5s, but this is still unclear.
As noted earlier, Xiaomi Mi 5s is not even the confirmed name of this device. However, the company should be releasing a device really soon, which of course will be a successor to the Xiaomi Mi 5. A Xiaomi event is expected to take place Tuesday next week, which is when more details about this phone will be brought to light.
