The Year 2018 is going to see a number of flagship Smartphones sporting the leaked Snapdragon 845 CPU.
Manufacturers of Xiaomi, LG, OnePlus and Samsung had all indicated that they will be using these chips in their next generation handsets, but Samsung seems to have beaten them to the punch. The new chipset was leaked when Apple and Qualcomm had a falling out at the International Trade Commission meeting held in July. It will replace the Snapdragon 835 processor.
This development does not come as a surprise to users and industry players alike. Samsung seems to be enjoying a fantastic relationship with Qualcomm given that they also got the first batch of the Snapdragon 835 processor when they secured the first batch for the Samsung S8.
In keeping with tradition, Samsung aims to ship the Galaxy S9, having the Snapdragon 845 to China and the United States. The rest of the world will get the device that will have the in-house CPU called Exynos 8900. The same thing happened with the S8, which shipped to China and the United States having the Snapdragon 835, and the rest of the world got the same device with the former Exynos processor. The reason for this tradition is based on the fact that the United States and China are the major markets for Samsung devices.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 will be the first modular handset developed by the North Korean Company. There are several magnetic connectors on the device, which will be used for connecting varied accessories such as a 360-degree camera, a gamepad and a battery pack for extended use.
One leaker based in China wrote on the Chinese Social Media site, Weibo, claiming that the smartphone will have the Snapdragon 845 in their S9 and S9 Plus variations. He goes further to say that the initial batch that has been secured will be used on the Galaxy S9 duo.
Usually, LG is the one that releases their flagship before all other major manufacturers. The LG G7 will also be using the snapdragon 845, but it seems like this time, it will be launched after the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus Smartphones.
The sdm845 processor that was noted in the Samsung leak of last month showing a Samsung device with the model number SM-G9650. This is now thought to have been the predecessor of the Snapdragon 845 processor.
Geekbench showed that the sdm845 was a Quad-core processor with a clocking of 1.78GHz, and it was rightly assumed to be made for the Samsung Galaxy S9.
The Snapdragon 845 processor will be built on a 7nm node, and will be manufactured by TSMC and not Samsung. This is based on the fact that Samsung is currently migrating to the 8nm node.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are still an enigma to most fans as they are not aware of most of the features. However, there is some word going around that the S9 will have the codename Start and the S9 Plus will be called Star 2.
