Game of Thrones, Moana, Super Mario Run and Kendrick Lamar top charts in Google Play’s Best of 2017

Google Play Best of 2017

The year is almost over and just like 2016, Google is giving us a summary of how things went down in the Play Store.

The search giant has just revealed the Google Play Best of 2017, which is a list that ranks the best and most popular TV shows, movies, apps, games, music and books in 2017. While there are a few mainstays from 2016, we also get new names in the different categories listed.

In the list of the most popular new apps of 2017, the top end has the Photo Editor – Beauty Camera & Photo Filters, which has been downloaded between 10 million and 50 million times. Weather app What The Forecast came second with downloads of between 1 million and 5 million while Boomerang was third, managing the same range of downloads as What The Forecast. Top Buzz Video: Viral Videos, Funny GIFs & TV shows and Yarn – Chat Fiction came fourth and fifth, respectively.

Super Mario Run, developed by popular game developer Nintendo, took the number one spot as the most loved game of the year, managing between 50 million and 100 million downloads and closely followed by Bubble Witch 3 Saga, which accumulated between 10 million and 50 million downloads. Magic Tiles 3 managed the same figure and in fourth and fifth places were CATS: Crash Arena Turbo Stars and Ballz, respectively.

In the music department, Kendrick Lamar’s HUMBLE and DNA sandwiched Ed Sheeran’s Shape for You in the top three list of the most download songs, with Future’s Mask Off and Sam Hunt’s Body Like a Back Road coming in fourth and fifth respectively. Readers were impressed with Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*uck, followed by Stephen King’s It and in third was The Battlemage by Taran Matharu.

For the lovers of movies, it seems this year was a female show, with Moana topping the list followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Wonder Woman in second and third. Coming in fourth and fifth were Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 and Doctor Strange, which is one of my favorites.

Speaking of favorites, my all-time favorite TV show, Game of Thrones, retained its crown from 2016 by beating Rick and Morty and The Walking Dead, who came in second and third, respectively. The Big Bang Theory, another favorite, and Doctor Who rounded up the list of top 5 TV shows in 2017.
