Recent rumors have been filled with talks of both the Google Nexus 7 2016 as well Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 tablets.
While none of the two has been officially confirmed, the rate at which leaks have been coming in, especially from top figures in the business such as Evan Blass, is a strong indicator that indeed we can expect these tablets to be launched very soon. But the question is which one between the two should you go for? Will it be Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 or Google Nexus 7 2016? Well, let’s take a look at what the rumors have to say about these two slates.
As far as the release dates of both Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and Google Nexus 7 2016 are concerned, all we can assure is that 2016 will be the year. As for the date or even month, there is little to talk about. Still, there have been reports suggesting that the Google Nexus 7 2016 could be launched alongside the Pixel and Pixel XL phones, which should be here beginning early next month. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 has missed quite a number of launch dates, running all the way from June up to the recently-concluded IFA 2016 event in Berlin. Still, there is belief that the tablet will be released before this year ends.
Hardware specs and features
One thing about these two tablets is that they’ll both come with flagship specs. According to rumors, the Google Nexus 7 2016 tablet will pack a 7-inch AMOLED display panel with QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Under the hood, this device will be driven by this year’s flagship chipset – Snapdragon 820 – and a RAM of 4GB. As for the storage, you get a huge 64GB unit, which should be enough for your needs.
In terms of software, expect the latest Android Nougat to come preinstalled on the tablet, just like what will happen with the upcoming Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones. Camera-wise, it has been speculated that Google will opt for a 13MP snapper on the back, but there is little to say about the front snapper.
On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will also come with a Super AMOLED display panel that features a 4K resolution. Unlike the Google Nexus 7 2016, the Galaxy Tab S3 will come in two sizes of 8 inches and 9.7 inches. Under the hood, the latest Exynos 8890 SoC is expected, but there could also be a Snapdragon 820 SoC variant. As for the RAM, both units will stop at 4GB, but expect more than one storage option for the Tab S3, probably 32GB and 64GB.
The camera of the Galaxy Tab S3 will reportedly come with an 8MP lens on the back and 2MP on the front. There are also claims that Samsung could ship the tablet with Android Nougat out of the box, but this is still mere speculation. Given the larger size of the Galaxy Tab S3 as well as the increased number of pixels it has to power, it is expected that the two models will come with huge battery units. But apparently, the 7-inch Google Nexus 7 2016 could outshine the 8-inch Galaxy Tab S3 with its rumored 5100mAh battery as compared to the 4000mAh expected on the latter device. The 9.7-inch variant should come with a larger 5870mAh unit, alongside support for USB Type-C connectivity.
