Pixel and the Pixel XL

Announcing the Pixel and the Pixel XL at the event, it seems that Google has made a copy of the iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus, using the specification uphrades of the iPhone 7. The two phones, the Pixel and the Pixel XL are 5 inches and 5.5 inches respectively. They both come with brushed aluminum on the rear and sport headphone jacks.

Similar to iPhone

The two phones are identical to the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus, which cannot be said of the earlier Nexus devices and even HTC 10. The key to Pixel is the integration of the software and hardware, which is what Apple devices are about.

Powerful but Not Water Resistant

The two new Pixel phones come with powerful hardware and fast processors. They have good storage options of 128 GB and a memory of 4GB. Both also have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, but the one important feature missing is the water resistance one, so they cannot survive an unforeseen swim or a rinse in the rainstorm.

Daydream View

This can be compared to the Gear VR of Samsung, a VR headset. However, it stands out from the rest of the competition, as it can work alongside phones manufactured by any company matching the Google specifications. At present, only the Pixel and the Pixel XL have been announced as compatible with Daydream View. The controller is a cool feature mimicking what users do with the PlayStation controller for VR.

Virtual Assistant

The Google Home can be considered a clone of Amazon’s Echo, voice controlled speaker. The speaker comes at $50 less when compared to Echo and its brain is the Google Assistant. The Assistant can play YouTube music and comes along with a subscription for YouTube Red. Google Home is nothing but another Echo, but since Google possess the search capabilities, it could make a lot of difference to the product.

GoogleWifi

This product from Google is comparable to Eero, which offers mesh networking to users. It helps in spreading the load rather than relying on one big Wi Fi router. It spreads over several Wi Fi routers and thereby simplifies the setup of the routers through an application. The Google Wifi is cheaper when compared to the Eero, and offered at $129 for one Wifi and $2999 for three. In comparison, Eero costs $199 for one and a higher $499 for a pack of three. Google Wifi is a little more cylindrical and also higher than the Eero.

Another Chromecast

Google has come up with a new Chromecast Ultra, which offers media streaming in 4K along with Ethernet port.
