Greatest Video Games in History Revealed – No place for Minecraft or Fallout in Top Ten

Video gaming has become part and parcel of the current world with countless titles and series available to choose from.

Correspondingly, rating is inevitable but has become quite hard for video gamers as preference changes from one person to another. All the same, a research has come up with a list of the top video games of all time.

The round up was based on several parameters: the list consists of console video games released between 1980 to date and includes only those titles for most current consoles. Besides, user reviews, Metacritic scores, and researchers own personal encounter with the games were taken into consideration. Unfortunately, popular franchises like Minecraft and Fallout though popular did not make it to top ten at least according to this research. Here is the list in ascending pecking order:

 ‘Tetris’        

First released on June 6, 1984, ‘Tetris’ is a game which involves manipulation of falling tiles to come up with lines that are then cleared off the screen. The game which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year has a complicated storyline but it is fun to play and is super addictive with a lovely background melody. Though it was available on nearly all platforms, it was its release on the handheld edition of Game Boy gaming system in 1989 that marked its breakthrough. Tetris has since then become the best-selling paid-downloaded game of all time.

‘Halo’ (series)

Released on November 15, 2001, Halo is available on Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, as well as iOS and Widows Phone. The game is a military science fiction first-person shooter video game series developed by Bungie. The title is based on an interplanetary battle between human the Covenant which is an alliance of theoretical religious aliens.

The game is currently under Microsoft’s Subsidiary studio, 343 Industries. The tech giant has clung on the addictive series even after the original developer Bungie acquired its independence and went further to stop developing titles for the series. The current owners have just released ‘Halo: The Master Chief Collection’ for Xbox One and are also reportedly working on ‘Halo 5’.

Pokémon       

Pokémon was first released on September 28, 1998, and is available on all Nintendo Platforms. The game involves capturing colorful monsters that inhabit the game’s world. Players who are known as trainers roam real life locations to capture, pet the creatures and use them to fight other trainers.

The ultimate goal is to gather the strongest team which can beat other trainers’ collections as well as lead Pokémon’s called gym leaders. As your Pokémon win more battles it becomes stronger and its star increases and you can boast of your team to your friends and colleagues.

Pokémon franchise success only seconds Nintendo’s Mario.

‘The Legend of Zelda’

‘The Legend of Zelda’ is an action adventure game created by Japanese creators Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka and was released on February 21, 1996. The series revolves around a playable character called Link who is also the chief protagonist. The youthful hero is charged with the task of rescuing Princess Zelda and Hyrule world from crook from hands of wicked Ganon who is also the main antagonist.

Since its inception, the series has featured lots of lovable installments, some direct sequel to the original game while some have been a bit deviant. Some of the memorable installments include ‘A Link to the Past’, ‘Ocarina of Time’, ‘Link’s Awakening’, and ‘Wind Walker’ among others.

Even though the tales have changed through the ages, players have been able to follow through and the series has become one of the most loved games of all time.

‘Super Mario Bros‘

Nintendo’s ‘Super Mario Bros’ was launched in September 1985 and is now available on all Nintendo consoles. Mario is an icon in video gaming, the character started off as a ‘Jumpman’ in ‘Donkey Kong’ but the real breakthrough came when it first came to ‘Super Mario Bros’ in the mid-1980s. The character has become a face and a talisman for Nintendo and the entire video gaming world.

Mario is a winner and record holder of several awards which includes Guinness World Records for the ‘Most Sold Video Game’ series in history, ‘Most Prolific Video Game Character’, ‘First Movie Based on An Existing Video Game’ among other awards. The contribution of the popular character in the gaming and brands cannot be overemphasized.
