The Huawei Honor 6X is the successor to the highly successful Honor 5X and just recently, the phone was launched in India.
Like many other phones that have been released in the recent past, the Huawei Honor 6X comes preinstalled with the year-old Android Marshmallow out of the box. However, the Chinese OEM had promised that an update to Android 7.0 Nougat will follow the device’s launch sooner than later, somewhere in Q2 2017. Now, according to the latest reports, those who own this phone can be sure of an update to the latest OS this coming month of March.
The shift in statements from Huawei’s Honor branch will be taken as a huge relief for those who saw Q2 2017 as miles away from now. Still, don’t be surprised if the rollout continues well into the early stages of Q2, which starts in April.
Like other Huawei phones, the Honor 6X comes with an EMUI skin on top of the stock Android OS. At the moment, the phone has version 4.1 running the show, but those who have received the update to Android 7.0 Nougat via devices such as the Huawei P9 will tell you that the new OS is based on a newer skin – EMUI 5.0. While the new report confirms that Huawei Honor 6X will indeed be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat this coming month, as usual, there is no specific date mentioned.
Huawei was among the first companies to come in with a device that is powered by the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The OEM unveiled the Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro and Mate 9 Porsche Design towards the end of last year and all three are based on the new EMUI 5.0 skin. This early release probably means that the company had plenty of time to work with the OS, hence the early release for Honor 6X.
Still, anything can happen when it comes to software updates, but hopefully, this new release date doesn’t change.
