Huawei’s Honor brand has been in the U.S. for a while now and in fact, the company is expected to bring the newly launched Huawei Honor 7X to the market, but this hasn’t stopped them from keeping the outgoing Huawei Honor 6X up to date.
As at the time of this writing, the Honor 6X is getting a new software update. Don’t get too excited as this one has nothing to do with Android Oreo, but it is equally important thanks to what it brings to the fold. Even though not the latest security update, October’s Android security patch is still a good way to show some love for those rocking this budget phone.
It’s not common for budget phones to get regular software updates and the case isn’t different as far as the Huawei Honor 6X is concerned. The phone doesn’t get updates every now and then, which makes the latest version a must-have for those using the 6X. Besides installing a new security patch, the update also brings a new EMUI 5.0.1 skin, but there’s nothing in new in terms of features.
Of course, the OTA includes a bunch of bug fixes and performance improvements that are unknown to us but will be felt by those using the phone after the update. But as mentioned, this OTA is targeting the U.S. variant of the Huawei Honor 6X, which carries model number BLN-L24. As usual with OTA updates, not all Honor 6X units will get the notification to download and install the update at once, but it won’t be long before it lands on your phone.
When time comes, make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection and at least 50% battery power before proceeding with the update process. If you can’t wait for the OTA, you may also want to try a manual update via the phone’s Settings menu, but there’s no guarantee that this method will get you the latest update.
