The iPhone trade-in program that Apple has rumored to be working on is now officially live.
This is a program that Cupertino feels will help owners of old and damaged iPhones get their hands on the latest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S with no need of having to incur the pain of repairing it.
Apple recently announced that it was predicting a slow year thanks to the fact that sales of its most prestigious smartphone had flattened from somewhere last year. This is a huge scare for the leading high-end smartphone manufacturer in the world as it may mean one of these two: the iPhone is becoming boring to some people or buyers are falling in love with other companies’ devices, for instance, Samsung, Huawei, LG, and Xiaomi, among others.
Surprisingly, Samsung also announced the same thing; something that could mean the two tech giants might be going through a slump. As a way of tackling this, Apple CEO Tim Cook feels that offering those who own old devices that are becoming a nuisance to them or maybe the damaged ones that need fixing a chance to get a new iPhone 5S, iPhone 6/6 Plus or iPhone 6S/6S Plus.
Apple is under pressure
As mentioned earlier, Apple announced that it is expecting a slow growth this year. This is not something investors want to hear. In a bid to make sure that they are not scared away, Apple wants to force its sales for the latest devices up the scale by all means. The use of the iPhone trade-in program should for sure help pushing this figure skywards.
While in the past those who wished to trade in their old iPhone for a new one had to meet certain conditions set by Apple – intact display, camera, and buttons – in order to get a new iPhone for $350, the new offering will now let users get the new iPhone 6S for less than half the price.
This time round cracked screens and related defects will cut into the iPhone’s trade-in value. As a result, this will limit the iPhone 5S to $50 while the iPhone 6 Plus will stand at $250. Even though you can process this iPhone trade-in via the web, Apple has made things a little sweeter by directing customers to its physical stores in order for them to get the best and most accurate appraisals.
The iPhone trade-in program can also be accessed on certain vendors’ platforms, for instance, Gazelle and Usell as well as on major wireless carriers.
So, why use an old iPhone or spend volumes of time and cash trying to repair a damaged phone yet you can trade it in and get a newer iPhone 6 or 6 Plus?
