The Kia Stonic has been under making for a long time and the newest set of sketches revealed online gives a good idea of how the SUV would look like.
The designers have definitely done a great job in making the car look distinct from the other cars in their lineup.
While there had been some spy shots and other leaks with regards to the Stonic, this is the first time Kia has confirmed that it will be the name they are planning to use for the Rio-based crossover. Many of the design elements are borrowed from the larger Sorento and the Sportage SUVs. These models have already proven their mettle in the highly competitive SUV market. The front fascia of the car is quite fascinating as it sports a sharp shoulder line combined with sleek headlights and a compact tiger nose grille.
The team has gone with signature LED lighting whereas the same cannot be said about the tail lights which are familiar and has been made to look more like the ones found in the existing model. Kia cars have always had similar taillights and the same can be found in the upcoming Stonic. The front spoiler protrudes from the body so as to make the flared wheelarches look larger than they are combined with rear scuff plates. An urban looking SUV is what the designing team is aiming at and it is evident from the overall sporty finish they have acquired for the model. Every aspect of the car according to the sketch has been tweaked in such a way that it marks Kia’s entry into a new range of SUVs that should mark their future releases.
Being simple drawings, it is obvious that you can’t just assume everything based on the sketches. Converting them and bringing the same finish in the car is where Kia Stonic should succeed. The company also wants to segregate the model from the Rio Supermini. Talking about their future plans, Peter Shreyer, head of Design at Kia confirmed that they might inject bulkier elements into the supermini’s bumpers, boot and sills so as to make it look bigger for an aggressive finish.
The interiors of the Kia Stonic SUV remains a mystery at the moment but inside sources claim it will feature a lot of smooth surfaces and straight lines. Technologically, the model will be very advanced featuring a large touchscreen display, easy smartphone connectivity combined with an European design. The interiors will be quite exquisite something that cannot be found in older Kia models. More details are awaited soon.
