The Apple event that took place recently saw a lot of new releases and also created a lot of chaos surrounding the intricate details of the products and their uses.
With the launch of the new iPhone 7 from Apple, comes the brand new AirPods, that have been designed specifically for the iPhone7 and iPhone 7 Plus models. The AirPods come at a massive price of $159 at launch time. These AirPods reportedly come with a new W1 wireless chip, which made everyone believe that the new wireless earphones will work only with the newly launched iPhone models.
At the event, Apple used the term “Bluetooth-like” technology. This once again created a stir with the audience making them think as to which connectivity form will be used by the new AirPods. However, things became a little clear when the listing page of all the products was given, which detailed the use of the Bluetooth. It was also reported that the new AirPods are compatible with other models of the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. However, the Bluetooth version was not specified.
Apple Products That are Compatible with the New AirPods
To be more specific, the new AirPods from Apple are compatible with models of iPhone 5 and newer devices, with the iPad Mini 2 and newer devices, the iPad Air and Newer devices and also with the iPod Touch 6th Generation. The omission of the older models clearly indicates that the new AirPods work only with the devices that run on the iOS 10. There are also a few Apple watch models that have been included in the compatible devices list.
Apple had given an interview to BuzzFeed, in which it threw some more light on the details regarding the new releases and features. The company’s executives detailed out that apart from the devices that run on the iOS 10, the new AirPods will work also the Apple Watch OS3 and with MacOS Sierra models. They also clarified that the AirPods work via Bluetooth connectivity. Apple has managed to create a storm in the tech world right now by introducing the W1 wireless chip that allows seamless pairing. It also provides features to change songs at a tap. The published details go on to report that the AirPods will also work with non-Apple devices. However, they have not disclosed any details about the mystic features that go into their W1 wireless chip.
How to Use the AirPods with Non-Apple Devices
So now it is out in the air that the new AirPods use the Bluetooth technology to connect and to stream audio. They are absolutely compatible with other Apple devices that run on the latest operating systems. They also work fully with the non-Apple devices too. But the question is – How do you pair the AirPods with non-Apple devices?
Fortunately, there has been detailed information from other tech-savvy firms like TechCrunch and Daring Fireball, whose executives revealed that the AirPods will have the same carrying and charging case. This case has a small button on its rear panel. This button allows resetting all the active connections and supposedly lets the AirPods to openly pair with other Bluetooth devices.
By allowing the AirPods to work with the other non-Apple devices, Apple has forfeited its proximity pairing feature that affords using the wireless earbuds for an iPhone. Moreover, you will not be able to use Siri.
To explain how this works exactly, we will have to wait until October for the new AirPods to go on sale.
