A few days ago, a report by Xperia Blog revealed details about the promised Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. According to the report, Sony confirmed that the phone will be receiving the update to Oreo later in December. This was only but adding more emphasis to the company’s earlier assurance that the phone will receive Oreo before the end of 2017.
In a little over a month, December will be upon us. However, there’s even much better news as the tech giant has just confirmed Android 8.0 Oreo update is actually available for download as from today. Yes, you read it right! Sony has just started rolling out the Oreo update to the Xperia XZ Premium, which is essentially more than a month ahead of schedule. This move will without a doubt leave many thrilled at Sony’s willingness to give them a treat of the latest Android OS so soon.
The update, which weighs about 1.3GB, carries software version 47.1.A.3.254 and it includes a number of new features alongside the Oreo update. These include 3D Creator, a feature that can be used to scan your face to create a 3D image or avatar. If you have the right hardware, you can also 3D print your image. Sony also says the update adds Autofocus Burst to improve action shots while Predictive Capture starts taking photos even before you hit the shutter button so long as it detects a smile. There will be up to four shots to choose from – a good way to ensure you hardly miss a moment.
For those who enjoy using the external speakers, the update adds some tuning improvements to the front-facing speakers. For enhanced experience when using compatible wireless headphones, owners of Xperia XZ Premium will also be receiving aptX HD audio support. The Oreo update will also add other software features such as app shortcuts.
As with every other major update, not all Sony Xperia XZ Premium users will receive the Oreo update today. The company says it will be phased, which means it could take days or weeks before all units receive the OTA notification.
