The Indian manufacturer Lava has added another smartphone, the Lava X38 to its smartphone portfolio on the company’s website in August.
It is worth noting that the online retailer Flipkart listed the handset on its website at a lower price even as the manufacturer had not made an official announcement about its availability at that point of time. There are now expectations of a possible release in the third quarter of the year. The X38 is a successor to the X17 and X50 devices launched earlier last month in July. However, these two gadgets were made available at a slightly higher price tag although they are easily affordable too.
Dimensions, Weight, Body Material and Design
The Lava X38 is slightly thicker and bulkier than other smartphones of its size. The handset is sized at 155 x 71.8 x 8.9mm and weighs 162g. Staying at par with its counterparts in the same price range, the device sports a plastic body. As for design, the gadget has a typical rectangular style with sharp corners. This in turn makes it look like many Microsoft Lumia offerings. The X38 is designed to accommodate two SIM cards at a time. With a patterned and textured back panel, the smartphone provides a sturdy grip and prevents slipping when you hold it in your hand.
Screen Size and Display, Pixel Resolution and Density
The multi-touch touch IPS LCD screen has a standard size of 5 inches that makes the handset overall quite compact. The HD screen supports a pixel resolution of 720 x 1280 and a pixel density of 294ppi. Added to this, the fully laminated technology ensures that the screen is resistant to scratches. Needless to say, the X38 supports the standard 24 bit color depth with 16 million colors and 16:9 aspect ratio. The wide viewing angles rendered by the IPS screen make browsing, reading and gaming experiences truly better and more enjoyable.
Rear and Front Cameras
The primary snapper in the Lava X38 is an 8MP shooter with a CMOS sensor and an LEDflash. While images have a resolution of 3264 x 2448, full HD 1080p videos can be recorded at 30 fps with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Self-timer, digital zoom, continuous shooting, HDR and scene modeare some noteworthy features. For selfie lovers, the front shooter is just an average 2MP camera with 1600 x 1200 image resolution and 640 x 480 resolution for videos recorded at 30 fps. However, the LED flash helps in bringing clarity to selfies shot in surroundings where there is low light.
You can also record slow motion and time lapse videos with this gadget.
Hardware, Memory and Software Under the Hood
The X38 is loaded with a 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. This storage can be augmented up to 32GB by using a memory card. Additionally, the smartphone comes with a MediaTek MT6735P chipset, a 1GHz quad core 64 bit ARM Cortex-A53 central processor and a dual core ARM Mali-T720 MP2 graphics processor. Because of the less clocking frequency, the speed of operation could tend to slow down and the device may not be suitable for multitasking.
The handset comes with the latest Android operating system – Android 6.0 Marshmallow – installed for you to take advantages of the updated and latest features supported by this version. It offers support for 12 Indian languages.
Sensors, Colors and Connectivity Options
The smartphone has five key sensors that include a proximity sensor, a magnetometer, an ambient light sensor, an accelerometer and a gravity sensor. The Lava X38 is available in two color choices of blue and gray. As for connectivity, the gadget supports Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n and hotspot), GPS, micro USB (Version 2.0 and Type B connector), a 3.5mm audio jack and Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP.
Battery and Battery Life
The X38 has a mammoth removable Li-Polymer battery of 4,000 mAh capacity. According to the manufacturer, this will provide a standby time of a maximum of 351 hours. Added to this, the company claims that the when the super power saver mode is activated, the standby time can be increased to 546 hours. The talk time is on an average 21 hours.
