Samsung has specialized in the process of coming out with rugged versions of its flagship smartphones in the past.
The Samsung Galaxy S7, maybe the latest, to get the treatment, as more specifications of the Galaxy S7 Active have been leaked. AT&T network is expected to offer unrivalled support for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active when it comes to the markets on June 10. There are several differences on this model compared to the regular Galaxy S7. These have been made in order to protect the device from the elements and make them appealing for those with an extremely active lifestyle.
Compared with the regular Galaxy S7 which comes with 7.9 mm thickness, the Galaxy S7 Active is expected to be bulky at 9.9 mm. Much of this bulk may come from having an exterior cover to protect the device from accidental falls and slippages. The additional protection not only increases the size of the device, but it also makes it heavier by 15 g compared to the regular version. The standard Galaxy S7 comes in at 170 g, whereas the Galaxy S7 Active is expected to tip the scales at 185 g.
Rumors indicate that this increase is also likely to be down to the larger battery. The Galaxy S7 Active may come with a large 4000 mAh battery, which is a significant increase over the standard Galaxy S7’s 3000 mAh battery. The non-removable battery, though, can be charged to around 60% of its full capacity in just 30 minutes. Just like the regular version, the Galaxy S7 Active is expected to support wireless charging for added convenience.
Depending on the region of availability, the Galaxy S7 has been available with either Snapdragon or Exynos chipsets.
Many high end smartphones these days offer IP 68 protection, which means that the device can withstand substantial amounts of water and dust. However, the Galaxy S7 Active could be in an entirely new league altogether, in terms of strength since it can handle rain, vibration, thermal shock, salt, humidity and solar radiation amongst many others because of the MIL-STD-810G certification, which is expected to accompany the device.
Interestingly, the Galaxy S7 Active may not be the phone only for people looking for excitement outdoors. It may be extremely competent as a full-fledged smartphone with its latest Android 6.0 operating system and powerful processor. The Galaxy S7 Active will be available only on AT&T network.
