One of the fascinating games released at the Electronic Entertainment Expo is the latest chapter and the nineteenth major installment in The Legend of Zelda series, Breath of the Wild.
Three years down the line since Nintendo teased the game in 2013, the tech-demo is ready. The trailer and an entire lot of the gameplay were revealed at the E3 2016 event. The participants at the E3 event had the opportunity to see two previews of the game which Nintendo has said corresponds to approximately one percent of the game’s entire surface area. The company also confirmed that the game will officially launch sometime in 2017 for Nintendo’s new system, NX (coming in March 2017) and Wii U console.
One of the two demos focused on exploration, introducing a number of new game mechanics while the other revealed the early parts of the storyline.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild storyline
A teenage Link is the protagonist (he wears shorts to hide his modesty). As the game begins the main character awakens from a deep slumber in the Shrine of Resurrection. In the Shrines, he finds a tablet-like device, Sheikah Slate, which can be used as a key that can be used to access the shrines in the overworld. He finds some clothing in the chests, just then a mysteriously female voice makes him aware that he is the only one who can save the world. The protagonist meets an old man, the only sympathetic character in the hostile world whose buildings are tumbled down and retrieved by nature, from whom he learns that 100 years ago a great evil, Calamity Ganon, came and ruined Hyrule (world). The old man guides him to a pedestal into which he inserts Sheikah Slate. All over sudden, a number of towers are raised across the land and Link is told he has been asleep for years and that the monster has captured the Hyrule. Link will have to overpower the beast to regain the world and the adventure begins.
Gameplay
The game is a little bit different from the recent games in the series, it takes part in a vast, transversable environment. Throughout the game, the player controls Link, who has the ability to climb any surface. He can explore the environment to discover various weapons like shields, melee weapons, and bows. Besides, he can find equipable clothing and food that can be eaten raw or when cooked to bring back health. Link will possess the Sheikah Slate throughout the game, this piece of technology allows him to make waypoints and investigate enemy stats and provides him with a map.
Eiji Aonuma, The Legend of Zelda producer, said that players can play the game without getting the full storyline depending on the way they strategize and solve puzzles. They are able to go to the very end and complete the mission depending on their prowess. So basically, revealing the storyline and finding out why Link woke up or going straight to the goal is a choice left for the gamer.
