Lenovo begins Android 7.0 Nougat soak test for the Moto Z Play

Moto Z Play Verizon Offer

The Moto Z Play is the remaining member of the Moto Z series that has yet to see the update to Android 7.0 Nougat, but this won’t be for long, according to the latest findings.

As it is, Moto Z Play users are expecting to see the OS start rolling out somewhere in March, but latest reports say that those who are part of the Motorola Feedback Network have already started a soak test. In case you are still wondering what a soak test is, well, this is just another way of saying the Z Play has begun beta-testing the new OS.

During this soak test, Lenovo will send the new Android 7.0 Nougat beta to a select number of Moto Z Play phones so that users can use it and send feedback about their experience with the OS. In this way, the company is able to take care of any issues before rolling out the OS to the larger masses. Looking at past soak tests, it shouldn’t be long before the stable version starts rolling out to the midrange variant of the Moto Z series.

What does it mean? If all goes well, Moto Z Play users could start receiving Android 7.0 Nougat well before the stipulated March release date. At the same time, things could go contrary and hence delay the rollout even further. Hopefully, the former will be the case.

Moto Z Play

Unlike the Moto Z where Lenovo updated the Verizon variants first before finally moving on to the unlocked models weeks later, Motorola will use slightly changed tactics with the Moto Z Play. Apparently, all variants of the phone will start receiving the update at the same time, be it a carrier-branded version or unlocked model.

Even though the Moto Z Play has not gained rave reviews like its counterparts, probably because it comes with midrange specs, one thing that makes it come out on top of the rest is its huge battery unit of 3510mAh, slightly bigger than the 3500mAh unit on the Moto Z Force and way bigger than the 2600mAh found on the standard Moto Z. Furthermore, you still get support for Moto Mods and now the latest Android OS is just around the corner.

Do keep in mind that this update to Android 7.0 Nougat is not rolling out to all devices and if you don’t get a notification, don’t fret, the stable version is not so far away.
