Lenovo ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro start receiving Android 7.0 Nougat OTA

Lenovo ZUK Z2

Lenovo has impressed when it comes to rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat updates to a series of Motorola phones, but the story hasn’t been the same as far as its ZUK-branded lineup is concerned.

This is about to change for those who own the Lenovo ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro flagship smartphones. The Chinese OEM has started rolling out the new OS to the two phones, but this is happening in China, at least for now. According to the latest reports, the Nougat treat for the two phones also comes with the new ZUI skin, which carries version 2.5.334 and weighs about 1.1GB. This means that you need to be using an unlimited data plan in order to get the update or at least connect your phone to a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Besides coming in with the new Android 7.0 Nougat update, Lenovo ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro users will also receive a bunch of new features. These include support for fingerprint payments via WeChat, Alipay, and QQ, a new professional camera mode, among others. The update is rolling out as at the time of this writing and it is over the air. As such, not all units of the ZUK Z2 will be receiving the OTA notification at once. As for the international variants, the same treat should be on the way soon.

Lenovo ZUK Z2

Released in June 2016, Lenovo ZUK Z2 is a flagship that is widely known to Asian markets. It packs some impressive specs, including a 5-inch 1080p LCD display screen, a Snapdragon 820 processor, Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB of non-expandable storage. The back has a 13MP snapper with PDAF and LED flash while the front has an 8MP shooter. You get a fingerprint scanner on the front, USB-C port, and a huge 3500mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

As for the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro, the screen size is slightly larger at 5.2 inches, but it keeps the same Full HD resolution. Under the hood, the ZUK Z2 Pro has the same Snapdragon 820 SoC, but it bumps the RAM up to 6GB and storage up to 128GB. There is a better 13MP snapper on the back of the Z2 Pro, featuring PDAF, OIS, dual-tone LED flash and so on. The front has an 8MP shooter that shares the same specs as the standard Z2.

Like its counterpart, the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro also gets a front-mounted fingerprint scanner and USB-C, but the battery is smaller at 3100mAh, although it keeps Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology.
