Moto G5s, G5s Plus, Moto G6, Moto G7 Plus and Moto E4 Plus – Software Updates, TWRP Support and More

Moto G5s Plus

Here are the most recent updates on a bunch of Motorola smartphones including Moto G5s, G5s Plus, Moto G6, Moto G7 Plus and Moto E4 Plus.

Moto G5s & Moto G7 Plus – TWRP

Motorola Moto G5s phone with codename “montana” as well as Moto G7 Plus with codename “lake” have received support from the Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP). TWRP is an open source custom recovery software for Android based phones. This gives you the flexibility to play with the software of your phone. Before you install this software in your phones, you have to know a few things  about the process of installation, which also includes unlocking the bootloader of the device (which disables the device warranty). It’s better to know the pros and cons well before installing the TWRP on your device. Thanks to the maintainers Jarl-Penguin and Jleeblanch for Moto G5s and Moto G7 Plus respectively.

Moto G5s Plus & Moto G6 – Security Patch Updates

Both Moto G5s Plus and Moto G6 phone users in the US are getting the latest Android security patch updates dated August 1, 2019. Moto G5s Plus was released in August 2017 whereas the Moto G6 was released only in April 2018. Both the devices have the same 3000 mAh battery and 4 GB RAM but Moto G5s Plus offers slightly better performance than Moto G6, thanks to the Snapdragon 625 SoC. Moto G6 was released with Android Oreo but it has received the Pie update whereas Moto G5s Plus was released with Android Nougat 7.1 and has been upgraded to Android 8.1 Oreo.

Verizon Moto E4 Plus

Motorola Moto E4 Plus was launched in June 2017 with Android Nougat OS. The device is getting its 7th update from Verizon though it has not been officially updated to even Android Oreo. The current software update from Verizon covers only the Android security patches dated June 1, 2019 and nothing more! You will receive this update as an OTA update but you may also connect your device with your PC and download the software update manually.
