Motorola’s Moto G6 Play and Moto Z4 are relatively newly launched devices. The former launched in 2018 and the latter, earlier this year.
Verizon is sending out system updates to these two devices as OTA updates. Besides the security updates which is a regular activity, there are some specific performance improvements included in these update files. If you are an owner of either of these devices, check that the update is installed on your smartphone. The version number is given below each device here for you to verify. Here are the details.
Moto G6 Play
This smartphone was launched by Motorola in May 2018 and Verizon has sent seven system updates before this and the current one is the eighth. Once this system update from Verizon is downloaded and installed, you can see a major change in battery consumption. Android has released what is described as Android Launcher and it is the operating system’s user interface that lets you launch apps from your home screen. The purpose is to optimize the battery consumption on your Android device and let you enjoy more hours of phone usage without having to recharge the battery. In addition, the October patch of the Android security update is also included in this update file.
Quite recently, Motorola sent in the security updates for two more ‘G’ series devices namely the Moto G7 Play and the Moto G7 Power. These updates cover both carriers, Verizon and Sprint.
Moto Z4
The Motorola Moto Z4 is a 2019 release smartphone and Verizon’s second system update is going out now. Verizon’s notes on its update page for this device indicates that there were issues reported on the audio performance of the Moto Z4 and are being fixed now. One relates to the phone going mute while on an outgoing voice call. The other audio issue is the mixing of the sounds and garbling and external sounds creeping in during both outgoing and incoming voice calls. The present update from Verizon should fix these two issues. The latest October Android security update patch for the Moto Z4 is also included in this system update.
Verizon had already sent the system update for the Motorola Moto E6 phone recently.
