Moto Z2 Play Slimmer with Smaller Battery: Upgrades and Downgrades Combined

Moto Z2 Play

The Moto Z2 Play will be slimmer by one millimeter at 6 mm weight 20g lesser.

The earlier version was 7 mm and its weight was 165 g, with the latest one being 145 g, according to Evan Blass from VentureBeat. With these new specifications, the Moto Z2 Play will fit in nicely with the other smartphones in the Z series. Evan Blass has a good track record as far as mobile news rumors are concerned.

Moto Z Play

The Z Play was an impressive phone in Motorola’s first offering in the Z series. Though the Moto Z Play was not the fastest of the lot, the price was reasonable and the battery life was excellent. However, the Moto Z Play was chunky in size compared to the rest, so Motorola seems to have rectified this problem with the Moto Z2 Play.

Moto Z Range

Lenovo owns Motorola and the company is now working on the Moto Z Play, which is a follow up to Moto Z Play. However, the follow up might not be as impressive as the earlier model. The Moto Z Play is Android phone that came in August 2017. The device is in the middle range version of the company’s earlier offering the Moto Z. The Moto Z was released some months prior to the release of the Moto Z play. The Z Play is mainly popular for its big battery and the headphone jack. However, the Moto Z Play is not as slim as the Moto Z and it is also heavier that it. The advantage of the Moto Z modular smartphones is that the price tag is reasonable.

Trade Off

Having a slimmer frame is good for the Moto Z2 Play, but the tradeoff for this feature is that the battery will be smaller. The Moto Z Play of 2017 came with a bigger frame and a bigger battery of 3510 mAh. However, the battery of the upcoming Moto Z2 Play will be smaller at 3000 mAh. The 2017 model, Moto Z Play, offered a battery life that lasted several days. However, the new Moto Z2 Play will not be able to offer this feature.

The Moto Z2 Play will probably come with reasonably good hardware specs. However, it is was the excellent battery life that made the Moto Z Play a special device, so the Moto Z2 Play will probably be merely a good modular phone.

Other Specs

As far as the other specifications of the Moto Z2 Play are concerned, it will probably be boosted with an improved processor, the Snapdragon 626 chipset and has 8 cores clocking at a speed of 2.2 GHz. The graphics card is the Adreno 506. The RAM will be 4 GB and the internal storage will be 64 GB. However, the screen will continue to remain at 1080 pixel resolution, AMOLED, 5.5 inches one. The display will be a full HD type and the rear camera will have an f/1,7 aperture with 12 MP resolution. There will be a front camera of 5 MP.

The Moto Z2 Play will be powered by Android, Nougat OS and will come with some upgrades combined with some downgrades.
