The standard version of the Toyota Yaris is getting an upgrade and the next gen edition was spotted on the road.
It was heavily camouflaged yet it is easy to find that it is the next hatchback Toyota is planning to bring into the market before the hot Yaris supermini version.
When the new Yaris hatchback finds its way to the stores, it will meet with a number of significant rivals in the wild including the successful Nissan Micra, Volkswagen Polo and the Ford Fiesta. While the designers are not going to drastically overhaul the model, they will add plenty of new features and minor tweaks that make the new edition a worthy competitor. It will still look compact and sleek just like the existing model.
The interior quality is expected to improve by manyfold and borrow some inspiration from the C-HR crossover. Toyota will probably introduce their latest Touch 2 infotainment system in the Yaris. At the moment, it is reserved for the high end models from the brand. But, they did confirm that the top end features are always designed for the flagship models but will eventually trickle down to the most entry level variant so that every buyer could experience what Toyota’s elite customers enjoy.
Keeping a tight finger on fuel efficiency, the auto brand will continue to use a small, naturally aspirated petrol engine in the car. The 1.0-liter unit could also use turbocharging elements to offer increased power to the small car. The company may also launch a hybrid variant of the hatchback in the near future, after all the trimlines find their way to the stores.
Interior spacing and boot capacity will play an integral role to convince customers to go for it. Honda has managed to offer a cool 354 liters of boot space in their Jazz hatchback and is easily on the top of the line. Everyone else, including the Toyota Yaris is supposed to compete and deliver in this regard.
The spy photos of the next gen Yaris shows a car that is completely camouflaged. It won’t be long before Toyota brings an undisguised version of the car to the upcoming World Rally Championship. When they do so, we will be able to see the car in all its glory for the first time. The event is expected to take place towards the end of 2017 after which official pricing and specs of the new hatchback will be announced.
