A powerful and impressive next Porsche 911 GT2 is in the making.
The model is expected to be out before the end of 2017 and when it does, the performance is sure to impress buyers and encourage other automakers to compete with efficient models of their own.
The GT2 features components and design inspirations derived from other Porsche models. The car has the 911 chassis from the second generation while the hardware choices are very much the same as the GT3 R. The GT2 RS sports a rear wheel drive setup which is also incorporated with rear axle steering and Porsche Torque vectoring combined with a variable locking rear differential.
As expected, the bonnet houses a powerful flat six engine which is turbocharged and is being used in the 911 Turbo S. The performance figures are something that can be confirmed when the car is officially out and put to road tests. At the moment, the automobile brand claims that the new model can deliver about 700 horsepower making it a powerful beast on the road with an exciting acceleration capacity of 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds. The top speed of the model is pegged at 205 mph which makes the GT3 RS and Turbo S look like slow cars.
The Porsche 911 GT2 features bodywork that is built according to track specifications with prominent inclusions like large front intakes, fixed rear wing and GT3 RS inspired arch vents. The photographs of the car have already emerged online and you can take a close look of them right here. These pictures suggest the designers are planning to offer maximum possible downforce in the final design. It will be achieved by the positioning of the bumper even though it is not confirmed what they may decide to go with close to launch date.
A test mule of the GT2 was recently spotted being tested at the nurburgring track. The latest updates and photos suggest that the model is indeed just months away from the big launch. Going away from the traditional Porsche 911 models to create something that is unique in all ways and offers exhilarating performance is no easy task for the entire team. They managed to accomplish this feat about seven years ago with the 997 series inspired model. The previous car delivered about 611 horsepower and is still considered the extreme version of 911 to be sold to the general public. The GT2 is expected to recreate the fame the previous edition generated.
