The flagship device Nokia 9 is coming soon and when it does, it’s going to usher in many new technologies including the Nokia OZO sound technology.
Designed to offer the most immersive sound possible, the technology is also made to support virtual reality headsets making the phone future proof. Nokia has been on a launching spree lately as the company announced the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 all scheduled to be available in stores this month and the next. HMD, the company behind the brand has planned to launch at least 7 different devices this year which will put Nokia back in the race with some impressive android phones at different price points.
At the moment, the Nokia 9 is still a rumored flagship device out of the two planned top end smartphones. The phone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, the same processor that is used in the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. A new rumor adds that it will be powered by the company’s proprietary Nokia OZO sound technology.
Nokia OZO audio provides users a whole new experience in the sound department with immersive 3D audio experience. The optimized sound will be evident in headphones and spatial audio playback devices but will also be used to offer low latency audio transmission on virtual reality headsets. The 3D sound will vary based on the position of the listener’s head when they are using a headset and it should be pretty phenomenal if used appropriately.
Apart from these significant improvements, the audio technology has also been optimized in such a way that it will provide high quality stereo output on every other device that doesn’t have Nokia OZO support. The concept is quite similar to Dolby Atmos and DTS being used in smartphones to offer the best sound reproduction for music lovers.
“The sound technology will focus on sounds in one direction while reducing ambient sounds and any other noise will be cancelled out to the bare minimum. Smartphones that have four microphones incorporated in them can capture 3D audio and those with 3 microphones will capture 3D audio. The OZO technology can adapt to the requirement,” reads a statement from Nokia.
Nokia 9 flagship model is expected to use the 835 processor combined with 6GB of RAM, 128GB storage space in the top end variant and will have 22-megapixel rear camera with dual lens Zeiss. The front will sport a 12 megapixel selfie camera. The phone will run on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
