OnePlus 3 is the next big thing from OnePlus, a Chinese smartphone company that was founded as recent as 2013.
After debuting with OnePlus One, the company followed suit with a similarly amazing and affordable device in the shape of OnePlus 2. This device even saw a mid-tier variant follow it later on in 2015, with the OnePlus X coming in as the first OnePlus device to sell free of the invite-only system, but this was only allowed to happen on a single day of every week.
To follow in the footsteps of last year’s OnePlus 2 is a new OnePlus 3 – a phone that has been rumored to be in the works for the past few months. Just like other previous models, the new phone is expected to come in with improvements over its predecessor as well as keep the usually affordable price tag, especially when compared to the current crop of smartphone flagships.
The latest leaks coming from China point to a OnePlus 3 smartphone that packs more than the average Windows PC RAM. In addition, the leaks reveal that the phone will come in two variants differentiated primarily by the amount of RAM on board. While the base model of the OnePlus 3 will pack 2016 flagship RAM of 4GB, the Chinese company will pack a massive RAM of 6GB in the premium variant. However, both phones will be based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset, which has four cores as opposed to last year’s Snapdragon 810, which had eight cores.
Since the OnePlus 3 will have two variants, it is possible that the Snapdragon chipset installed on either phone will be clocked at a different speed, however, this cannot be confirmed at the moment. In day-to-day tasks, it is not possible to notice these slight variations in hardware.
Unlike the OnePlus 2, hopes are high that the next flagship will come with a microSD card slot. This will be a huge addition for the potential buyers of the reported 32GB base model. The 64GB variant, which will also pack 6GB of RAM, might be a little decent in terms of storage, but having a microSD card would be a huge welcome for power users as they won’t have to delete files in order to accommodate others.
As far as the display is concerned, the leaks suggest that the base model might feature a smaller 5.2 inches of display while the premium handset will come with a 5.5-inch screen. However, both panels will be based on a 1080p resolution. The OnePlus 3 will probably pack a 16MP snapper on the rear and n 8MP sensor for selfies. You can also expect to have Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board, alongside features such as fast charging, fingerprint scanner as well as NFC technology.
There is no clear information regarding when this phone will be released. While the CEO had previously hinted at a release date in the second half of the year, emerging reports claim that the OnePlus 3 will be announced this coming month and officially released in early June.
We’ll keep you posted on the latest developments regarding the upcoming OnePlus 3 flagship.
