The Huawei P9 was unveiled recently and to follow it up with a mid-range version of the flagship is a Huawei P9 Lite.
Being a trimmed-down version of the flagship, expect this device to carry some features of the P9, but in a lower capacity. As previous rumors had indicated, the P9 Lite comes with a screen size of 5.2 inches that manages a resolution of 1080p. As far as the RAM is concerned, the Huawei P9 Lite gets two variants of 2GB and 3GB, unlike the flagship version which gets 3GB and 4GB variants.
The fact that there are quite a number of mid-range devices being shipped with RAM of more than 3GB leaves the base model of the Huawei P9 Lite in huge trouble. Although this is not to say that the 3GB variant is safe. Meizu, Zuk, and Vivo have both come in with quite amazing devices with superior RAM, yet they are meant to compete in the same category as the P9 Lite.
Further, under the hood, you will come across a Huawei-made Kirin 650 SoC. The company never goes near the Snapdragons of this world and instead relies on its reliable in-house production. Although a little weaker than the flagship Kirin 955, the Huawei P9 Lite still promises decent performance thanks to its octa-core configuration, although the speed of the cores is not yet known.
Just like Samsung and HTC with Galaxy S7 and HTC 10 respectively, you will find a 3000mAh battery unit in the Huawei P9 Lite. With this unit, you will be guaranteed of going through the entire day or even more with moderate usage.
Smaller and less powerful
The Huawei P9 Lite, as mentioned earlier, can simply be described as the smaller and less powerful variant of the flagship Huawei P9. As a result, it comes with some features missing while others have been stepped down.
In addition to the RAM and processor, the Huawei P9 Lite also has its camera stepped down. The rear has a 13MP sensor, which still gives quality photos even when in low light conditions. So far, there are no details about the aperture of the lens, the size of pixels and so on. However, we’ll be keeping tabs on this device to bring you more details.
To power the Huawei P9 Lite out of the box is the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow unless Huawei is digging its own grave by clinging to the older Android 5.0 Lollipop. As far as the pricing is concerned, the Huawei P9 Lite will cost about $340, however, this is European pricing. It is unknown whether the P9 Lite will come to the United States, but given the company’s intention of catching up with Samsung and Apple in the U.S. market, the phone might be on its way here.
