The recently launched OnePlus 3T was expected to come with android 7.0, but it turns out that the device will get the new operating system along with the older OnePlus 3.
The Chinese company removed the OnePlus 3 from the North American and European markets much to the disappointment of buyers who had purchased the device only a few months ago. The OnePlus 3T comes with marginal improvements in terms of specifications in areas like battery, processor, and camera.
OnePlus has been testing the new operating system for quite a while and it is yet to be available on the new models. The OnePlus 3T was expected to be the first phone from the company to offer Android Nougat experience out of the box. It turns out, the phone will receive this new operating system only as an update. Buyers will have to wait until December before they get their hands on the new operating system. The company has also confirmed that the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 will receive simultaneous updates from here on. It would come as the only bit of consolation for OnePlus 3 owners.
The OnePlus 3T features similar specifications in areas like the display and RAM. However, the use of a new snapdragon 821 processor is expected to speed up things marginally while managing to become even more efficient. The internal memory is now available in a 128 GB version, although customers will have to pay almost $80 over the OnePlus 3 in order to access this additional storage. The $80, though, also brings a new 16-megapixel front facing camera instead of the eight-megapixel camera on the OnePlus 3.
The battery life on the new OnePlus 3T has also been included to 3400 mAh, which means longer battery life on a device that can be used with the dash charger. The OnePlus 3T will also be available in a new color called the gun metal grey. This will be in addition to the soft gold and graphite options that have existed before. OnePlus claimed that it was going to treat the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T as a single phone but in different versions. This strategy is not too different from the dual phone philosophy of the likes of Samsung and Apple.
The OnePlus 3, though, has been removed from the markets in North America and Europe, which will start receiving the OnePlus 3T from November 22.
