OnePlus 3 took the world by storm when it launched with flagship specs but priced at almost half the price of other Android flagships. Apparently, the same company, which has bene dubbed the flagship killer, it at it again with a new OnePlus 3T.
As for now, these are just plain rumors, however, most of these smartphone rumors usually end up becoming real. For the sake of the argument, the current OnePlus 3 also started as a mere rumor, however, while the name of the current flagship was a bit obvious given that 2015 had seen a OnePlus 2 come to life, there are still uncertainties over the name of the OnePlus 3 successor.
As reported by Phone Radar, this phone will be called OnePlus 3T, however, OnePlus 3S or even OnePlus 3 Plus are still viable contenders. The report further adds that this new flagship will carry slightly upgraded specs when compared to its predecessor and current company flagship.
Unlike the OnePlus 3 that uses the Snapdragon 820 SoC, the rumored OnePlus 3T will reportedly come with the newer and faster Snapdragon 821, the same chipset used on the Google Pixel phones as well as LeEco Le Pro 3, among few other devices. Don’t expect this phone to be a successor to the OnePlus X midranger, especially since the OEM had confirmed that it will not be refreshing the device and instead, it will only focus on selling one flagship each year.
If this new OnePlus 3T variant materializes, it will be a twist to this statement. Looking at the slight changes on paper, it is easy to say that the rumored device has very little to bring to the table in terms of upgrades. Of course, the said Android 7.0 Nougat that should come preinstalled on the OnePlus 3T will be making it to the standard OnePlus 3 via an OTA update very soon, probably before this year ends.
Still, it is possible that OnePlus might add a few more upgrades, perhaps more storage, Daydream VR support, and even a dual-lens camera setup, alongside other features. But whether this will happen or not is anyone’s guess, but still, we’ll keep an eye on the developments and bring you the latest news.
