OnePlus might be one of the most interesting smartphone OEMs in the current campaign, but those who own this company’s older flagship – OnePlus 2 – might as well be one of the most irritated groups in the smartphone industry right now.
It’s not abnormal for a company to slow down the pace of attending to a certain device once a newer one – successor – comes into play. We see it with the likes of Google, Samsung, LG, Sony and so on. However, the case with OnePlus 2 is getting on many people’s nerves as the company seems to have completely forgotten that the phone actually exists.
This whole thing has everything to do with software updates. Unlike other 2015 flagships that include the Google Nexus 6P, Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 series, Sony Xperia Z5, HTC One M9 and so on, OnePlus 2 users are not sure whether or not they’ll be receiving the new Android 7.0 Nougat update.
Back in June 2016, the company, through its community forum, indicated that an update to Android 7.0 Nougat will be coming to the OnePlus 2, but there was no mention of dates. Up until now, nothing has happened just yet and the company is making things worse by keeping quiet about the same.
While this is happening to OnePlus 2 users, those using the newer OnePlus 3 and 3T are already using Android 7.1.1 Nougat. In fact, other than Google, OnePlus is the only major OEM that has made the newer v7.1.1 Nougat update available to its devices. So, what message does this send to current OnePlus 3 and 3T users?
If anything, those using the 2016 flagships should be ready to upgrade to the upcoming OnePlus 5 handset if at all they want to be sure of getting the upcoming Android O update. If the current state of affairs remains unchanged, it means that what OnePlus 2 users are going through will be the new case for OnePlus 3 and 3T users after Android O is released.
Even if OnePlus 2 ends up receiving the update to Android 7.0 Nougat, it will be quite a long wait for users of the phone. Whether OnePlus will make some adjustments to this wait time when Android O starts rolling out with respect to OnePlus 3 and 3T users is still a mystery, but it sure should be what every user of these two phones is wishing for.
