Overwatch free weekend will kickstart tonight or probably a couple of hours later based on your location.
The game will be free to play on PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms from November 18th to 21st.
The time is more than enough for most players who are really curious as to what Overwatch is all about. While MOBAs like Dota 2 and League of Legends continue to grow unabated, the Blizzard title is a completely different take on the third person shooter/ MOBA genre. It has so many elements put into it that players can enjoy it for hours and hours without getting bored. The free weekend also allows you to download the game and check if it will run good on your PCs, as a lot of players enjoy it on computers than the consoles because of the precision their keyboard/ mouse combo offers.
The announcement was made a week ago. During that time, the new teleporting hero Sombra was not available yet. Some players assumed Blizzard developers are planning to launch her after the free play time but they surprised everyone by rolling out an update much earlier. The next update suggested Sombra will not be available for free players but it is not the case. It has been officially confirmed that everyone on all platforms will be able to choose from 22 different heroes, which includes Sombra and there are 13 huge maps to test your skills against other opponents.
Blizzard in their statement added that players who earn points, unlock new items and loot boxes can carry them over to the full game when they purchase Overwatch. The level that you reach during the four day event will be carried forward so that you don’t have to start from the beginning again. The game is priced at a decent $40 for the base edition while a special edition costs $60. The unlimited hours of gameplay should make it worth the investment even though it might sadden players who are used to free to play games.
In order to play Overwatch during this weekend, you need a Battle.net account on PC. PSN and Xbox Live subscriptions are mandatory in order to go online to compete against other players. Trophies and achievements will not be available for those who play it for the first time. They may also be not able to go into ranked matches but if you manage to level up quickly, you might. The developers didn’t make a statement on this one yet. It’s expected to weigh at 12 gigabytes or lesser on PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms.
