Payday 2 is Coming to VR with a Free Update, HTC Vive Supported

Payday 2

Payday 2 is an amazing game irrespective of the flaws it has and is one of the best multiplayer experience you could get.

The game is coming to HTC Vive VR and will soon immerse you in a whole new world of heists.

The game has been around for four years now and doesn’t show any sign of slowing down. The developers continue to release new maps for it, weapons and more missions to accomplish. While a lot of first person shooters are great picks for the virtual reality experience, the one offered by Payday 2 is very unique. StarBreeze Studios Overkill Software is the team behind this title but they are already working on a completely new FPS game for the VR experience.

The announcement was first made by the company during a Twitch livestream event. The title of the upcoming shooter title was not confirmed but given their long experience working on the heist franchise, we can be sure that it will be something similar with more action and better maps specifically made to use the best aspects of a virtual reality headset like the HTC VIVE.

While the developers are interested in making an interesting and engaging title for the new platform, they also showcased how Payday 2 will run on Vive. A trailer was revealed during the event where controllers, headset and motion controllers were used in unison to put you right in the middle of the action. There will be two different controllers for dual wielding weapons and it will be used to aim down enemies to knock them off. A very unique and useful way to move around especially in a game where shooting forms the crux of the gameplay.

Motion control will also be part of the game because you can’t simply shoot and run around. Instead, the game wants you to sit down to cover, revive teammates and provide supplies to help the entire team wade through difficult heist missions. The overall gameplay provided carries the elements that made the original game so popular but it will be modified to suit the VR HTC Vive unit.

At the moment, there is no word on bringing it to Oculus Rift owners but once they have made it VR friendly, it shouldn’t be such a difficult task to launch Payday 2 on all other headsets so that you could enjoy some heisty multiplayer sessions with friends.
