Samsung is planning to expand the list of devices that it intends to upgrade to the Android Pie OS and this list might include Samsung Galaxy J2 Core and Galaxy J7 Prime 2.

Seen on the benchmarking site Geekbench are two models you might not have otherwise expected to be bestowed with this honor – The Samsung Galaxy J2 core and the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2. The fact that these two phones have showed up on Geekbench with the latest OS does not necessarily mean that the phones will receive the upgrade, it does appear that the upgrade could indeed happen soon. These two devices were released less than a year ago and that could be the reason the company felt it could go ahead with the upgrade.

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core (SM-J260)

Galaxy J2 Core was the first Android Go phone from Samsung. The phone is even otherwise a budget segment offering from Samsung, with a 5.0 inch display, with less than 1K pixel display and a quad core 1.4 GHz Exynos 7570 processor. With just 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage and a 2600 mAh battery, the phone is meant for the entry level phone buyers. The price point of less than $120 confirms the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core was targeted at the mid range segment. The upgrade to the Android Pie OS (Go version) is therefore a boon for the users of this phone.

Galaxy J2 core, along with Galaxy J4 core, was recently certified by Wi-Fi Alliance website last week and the phones were tested with Android Pie OS.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 (SM-G611F)

The Galaxy J7 Prime 2, on the other hand, has much better specifications with a 5.5 inch full HD+ display and a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and the other specs are better too. There is the octa core Exynos 7870 processor, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB internal storage. A 3300 mAh battery powers the device. But it has to be said the phone was launched in March last year with the Android Nougat version 7.0 and has had one OS upgrade to the Android Oreo version 8.0 already. If and when Samsung releases the Android Pie version 9.0 for this phone, it would be the second upgrade.

The users of these devices will definitely appreciate and enjoy the experience of the latest Android OS since it improves the phone’s security and several other features improve the performance as well.
