Sprint will release the 2nd generation Samsung Galaxy J3 through its network as well as through Virgin Mobile and the Boost Mobile.
Both these are the prepaid arms of Sprint without contract.
J3 Emerge in January
The new second generation J3, called the Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge, will be launched on 6th of January 2017. Most of the specifications that are seen on the Galaxy J3 devices will be retained in the new Galaxy J3 Emerge. However, there is a bump in the internals in case of the J3. Evan Blass, a well-known leakster who gets his information from a manual reviewed by VentureBeat, revealed the news.
The new Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge has a 5 inches screen with a resolution of 720 pixels, same as the previous generation device. However, the internal specs are a little different. The internals of the Galaxy J3 Emerge have been upgraded by Sprint. The previous iteration had a quad core Exynos chip and a RAM of 1.5 GB with an 8 GB internal storage. However, the Galaxy J3 Emerge comes with the octa core, Qualcomm Snapdragon, 430 processor and 2 GB RAM combined with internal storage of 16 GB.
The Galaxy J3 Emerge has a 5 MP rear camera and a 2 MP selfie camera. Though the configuration is not up to the competition as far today’s technological standards are concerned, the device is offered in the budget sector, so the features will be average. The rear camera can record videos at a resolution of 720 pixels.
Upgradeable to Nougat 7.0
Android Nougat 7.0 does not come out of the box for the Galaxy J3 Emerge. However, it runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0, which is better than the earlier Samsung Galaxy J3 devices running on Android Lollipop, 5.0 version. Samsung has not mentioned whether the Galaxy J3 Emerge will get the Nougat OS at any point of time. Budget devices do not usually receive the current Android OS versions, so as of now the answer seems to be no.
It is rather disappointing that Sprint has not enhanced the battery of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge, when compared to the previous iteration. The battery continues to remain powered at 2600 mAh. However, Marshmallow offers optimizations for the battery and this along with the Doze feature could lead to more efficiency in battery consumption for the J3.
Price of Galaxy J3 Emerge
The pricing for the Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge under Sprint as well as Virgin Mobile and the Boost Mobile is not announced yet. However, going by the specs that are revealed for the device, it seems that the price will not exactly be a bank-breaking figure. It is likely that the Galaxy J3 Emerge will fall under the budget smartphone devices price range. The release date of the Galaxy J3 Emerge has been confirmed as 6th January 2017 in case of the US. However, release dates for the other countries have not yet been announced.
