Samsung Galaxy Note 5 users are eager to know when this flagship will be updated to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat, but it seems this wait may have to persist.
In a new report, it appears that Samsung Galaxy Note 5 users in India are now receiving a new Android Security Patch dated December 1st. This update doesn’t bring the latest Android Nougat update to the 2015 flagship, but it only comes with a number of fixes to bugs and other security improvements to the phone.
Perhaps this is Samsung’s way of telling Galaxy Note 5 users to get ready for the new Nougat treat. The company is expected to roll out this update to this phone right after it’s done with doing the same for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The two have been taking part in the Galaxy Beta Program that came to an end last year. When ending the program, Samsung was clear that it will be working hard to ensure that S7 users start receiving the new OS this month of January.
There is no specific date as to when this will be happening, but given that the month is already up and running, we can expect to see the OS anytime soon. As for Samsung Galaxy Note 5 users, the Nougat treat should start coming in soon after the S7 and S7 Edge start receiving it.
As for now, Note 5 users can ensure that they have downloaded and installed the latest December monthly security update. The OTA update weighs about 295MB and as noted earlier, only those in India are currently receiving this Android Security Patch. Still, the OTA should start coming to other countries as well, but it may take some time to hit carrier-based versions.
Have you received the latest Android Security Patch on your Samsung Galaxy Note 5? If not, head to Settings>About device and from in there you can download and install this latest patch.
