After rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat update to Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, many Sammy lovers expected the next target to be the Galaxy Note 5.
However, it appears that Samsung is busy with testing the OS on the Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge+. Interestingly, the latter was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 5, but it has joined its slightly older sibling in testing for Android 7.0 Nougat.
According to new information coming from benchmarking website GFXBench and the Wi-Fi Alliance, both Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge+ should be receiving Android 7.0 Nougat not so long from now. Apparently, all variants of the smaller Galaxy S6 Edge have already been certified with the new OS on board. While this doesn’t mean the update will begin immediately, it shows that there is some positive progress towards making the OS available in the coming days.
Whether you are using a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge from Europe, South Korea, China, Japan, India, Canada or even the U.S., be it an unlocked or carrier-branded version – Android 7.0 Nougat is coming your way very soon. The story is the same as far as the phablet Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ is concerned, however, unlike Wi-Fi Alliance, the GFXBench listing doesn’t include all model numbers of the S6 Edge+.
Samsung usually takes ages when it comes to rolling out major software updates, but this has changed in the recent past. The OS was available for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users in 2016, however, this was a beta version. The stable release started appearing in mid-January 2017, something that is not usual for Sammy flagships. With the 2016 flagships now pushed aside, attention has now turned to their 2015 counterparts.
Even though Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is nowhere to be seen, those using the phone shouldn’t worry too much. Like the Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge+ users, the Note 5 should also be treated to an Android 7.0 Nougat OTA in the coming days, probably alongside the latter models. Not so long ago, the standard Samsung Galaxy S6 was also listed on Wi-Fi Alliance with Android 7.0 Nougat on board. Now that the other Galaxy S6 variants have joined the party, the stable rollout should just be around the corner.
