Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow Rollout Begins in Canada

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow updates have begun rolling out in Canada, just as it has been speculated earlier on.

The two phablets from 2015 will now start receiving this update over the air, something that should come as good news to many owners of these devices since the update has been around for quite some time now. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 were among the first devices to receive the Marshmallow update, but up to now, some users in various parts of the world, including here in the U.S., have yet to receive the latest Android mobile operating system.

Better late than never

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ users across Europe and Asia stared seeing the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update last month. The same has also been happening for American carrier Sprint, with the update spreading to other devices such as Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge; however, it is only now that users in the land of maple syrup can now enjoy the update on the two phablets. In fact, they’ll still have to wait a little longer before the same update reaches the 2015 flagships.

While the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is now rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5, it doesn’t guarantee that every Canadian will receive the update right away. In fact, the current Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow update is only available on Telus and Bell. Those using Rogers carrier will have to wait a little longer as the company may likely bring out the update towards the end of this month, probably beginning April 27.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS has seen a slow adoption rate since it was released last year. A little over a month ago, Google reported that the OS had just 2.3% of the total Android market share. As of now, latest stats show that the OS has doubled its market share to 4.6%. This shows how much OEMs and carriers are doing to ensure that the OS gets to as many devices as possible ahead of the looming launch of Android N, the successor Android M.

As you’d expect with any other software upgrade, Android Marshmallow brings new features, improvements as well as monthly security updates to Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 users. Other than the tweak made to the TouchWiz, the update also brings Now on Tap, Doze mode, and lots of other nifty additions.

The update will not hit all Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 devices at once. But you can still check for it manually via your phone’s About Settings and then hit the Software update option. However, before proceeding, make sure that you have enough (about 1.5GB) storage space on your device and that it is fully charged or connected to a power source.
