Being the flagship models they are, keeping the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge free of security issues is mandatory.
Google in association with Samsung released the December security patch for the unlocked phones in select regions.
Right in time during the holiday season during which spammers mostly send links and content that could harm your smartphone, Samsung has rolled out the security fix for the month of December. The file however is available only for unlocked devices. If you purchased it from service providers like T-Mobile or Vodafone, a different update will be rolled out at a later stage. They need to be approved by the providers before users could utilize the updates provided.
The latest version of the firmware on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones should be XXU1BPLB once you have done the update. As announced earlier, the patch fixes all the issues at least 81 of them to make the Android operating system easier and safe to use. The patches are rolled out by the team from Google. However, Samsung being a proactive brand of its own will introduce 15 different improvements to the operating system. The entire update is geared towards making the Exynos processor run smoothly unlikes MediaTek or Qualcomm processors that receive generic patches.
When you do the update, you will probably do it at your own risk if you download the APK from other sources. The right way to do it is heading to settings in your Samsung phone, open ‘About phone’ and click on update to latest version. Supported devices will instantly start downloading the file if you are on a Wifi connection. However, those that don’t will say that no updates are available.
The error message is nothing to worry about as you may have to wait for a couple of days before carrier specific Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones receive the update. With so many security fixes, the company choose not to reveal them all. The decision will ensure hackers and other illegal third party developers won’t gain access to the phone using its security flaws.
The patch update for Vodafone, T-Mobile among other major service providers in your region should roll out real soon. It is important to update your unlocked phones at once to safeguard your files and the hardware that are being increasingly targeted by malware developers. Samsung is gearing up to announce the Galaxy S8 flagship model probably during MWC 2017.
