Just like this year, Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6 and Xiaomi Mi6 are expected to be launched at the MWC event this coming Q1 2017.
The Asian companies were at the MWC 2016 event with their flagships namely Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5 and Xiaomi Mi5, but it is only the latter that was available for purchase right after the launch event. Those who were looking to get the Galaxy S7 had to wait for a few weeks but as for the LG G5, the wait went beyond a few weeks and into months. Nonetheless, we still expect the same companies to come in with successors to these phones at the MWC 2017 event that will be held in February 2017.
Samsung and LG were quick to unveil their flagships this year, just a day before the main MWC 2016 event and the same is also expected to happen this time round with the Galaxy S8 and LG G6. Xiaomi is also expected to grace the main event with its new Mi6 handset, especially now that it will be selling the phone in the U.S., unless the ongoing network tests will not be over by then. The 2017 MWC will take place on February 27, meaning we get to see both Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 on February 26.
As far as the specs are concerned, it has been rumored that Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with a flurry of changes, including a new edge screen like what we see on the Galaxy S7 Edge, Harman stereo speakers, a removable battery, a dual-lens camera and many others. However, none of these have been confirmed. On the other hand, the LG G6 is rumored to be getting rid of the LG Friends that launched with the G5 – a move that should be welcomed by many given that there was little to zero success with the modular design of the 2016 flagship.
Whether Xiaomi will keep pushing through with the almost bezel-less screen that debuted with the Mi MIX when releasing the Xiaomi Mi6 is still unknown, but it would be a complete pleasure to come across such a magnificent design, although beefed up in terms of robustness, when the phone is unveiled. In terms of hardware, the trio should come with the latest Snapdragon 835 on board alongside 6GB RAM modules and native storage options that go beyond 128GB.
There is still time before the launch of Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6 and Xiaomi Mi6 and as such, expect more rumors and speculations to keep showing up. But as we draw closer to the release dates, these stories should start getting tangible. We’ll be here to bring all the latest leaks as they unfold.
