It appears that Samsung Galaxy S8 will not be the only device that the South Korean tech giant will be releasing this coming Q1 2017.
Speculations are rife that Samsung has more than the Galaxy S8 in plan and apparently, a tablet, and a possible early release for a Galaxy Note device are all a possibility. As for the Galaxy S lineup, expect the usual release of two devices, but rather than be differentiated by the “Edge” tag due to the edge-to-edge display on one model, the 2017 handsets will see a Galaxy S8 Plus come into play thanks to the fact that both variants will come with the edge-to-edge display technology.
Like its predecessor, Samsung Galaxy S8 will be announced at the MWC 2017 event, which is scheduled to happen from February 27th. This means that the phone should be announced a day earlier, just like the Galaxy S7. As if trying to fill up the void left by the Galaxy Note 7, reports claim that the next variants of the Galaxy S8 will come with 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch screen sizes, with the latter being the Galaxy S8 Plus.
The two phones could be launched alongside Samsung’s digital assistant that aims to compete with the likes of Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant, among others. This rumor is catalyzed by the fact that the tech giant recently acquired Viv Labs, a company that is known for its AI capabilities.
While the Galaxy S8 seems to be a confirmed deal, there are still doubts about the Galaxy Note 8. A company official mentioned that the phone will be part of an upgrade program alongside the S8, but there is no more information about the handset. Nonetheless, some analysts have argued that the phone could be released alongside the S8 come March 2017.
This rumor can be backed by the fact that notable leaker Evan Blass came in with possible model numbers for the 2017 flagships, including the Galaxy Note 8. Apparently, Samsung will skip from SM-930 to SM-950 for its flagships, meaning the Note 8 gets something like SM-N950. It is unlikely that Samsung may jump in too soon with another Galaxy Note device, but who knows, anything is possible.
Aside from smartphones, Samsung may also unveil a new Galaxy Tab S3 tablet, a device that was expected to be released in September 2016. Apparently, new reports suggest that there are two models of the Galaxy Tab S3, but both are 9.7 inches in size. One will come with support for LTE while the other will be a Wi-Fi-only model with model numbers SM-T820 and SM-T825, respectively.
