Samsung has issued yet another official recall for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in a move that could hurt the company’s reputation quite badly.
However, Samsung have been left with little choice than to issue this recall, which also includes the replacement units delivered only a few weeks ago, after the replacement units provided as part of the worldwide recall started exploding once again. Apart from announcing an official recall, Samsung has also announced an end to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 era – just a few months after it had begun. Production of the phone would be completely halted and existing owners will be able to get a refund or choose another Samsung device of their wish.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has been plagued by issues ever since the phone was launched towards the end of August. Despite having plethora of features that instantly made it a popular smartphone amongst buyers, the phone did not have the reliability to match the features. There were random incidents of phones blowing up in several parts of the world. Only after about 35 or so phones exploded did Samsung admit that there was a major issue with the device. By the time the company came out with an official recall, Apple had launched the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The absence of a noteworthy competitor in the market has allowed Apple to enjoy a free run. Samsung, though, will be worried about its own future, as the company potentially faces lawsuits across the world. The South Korean giant will also have its reputation burned down quite badly. Samsung already has a reputation for favoring features over reliability and the Galaxy Note 7 issues only enhance this opinion. Launched just a few weeks ahead of the iPhone, the Galaxy Note 7 was expected to build on the success achieved by the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge.
Samsung has to now focus on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8. There were reports that Samsung would be coming out with an earlier launch of this product, but following the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, they may very well take their time about launching this device. This time would be required in order to ensure that quality focus gets back into the frame.
Apple will undoubtedly celebrate at the decision from Samsung, as they get to enjoy another few months of market share expansion before the new high end product is available from Samsung.
