Samsung W2018 flip phone cleared by Wi-Fi Alliance ahead of a possible wider release

Samsung W2018

It’s been 10 years since Samsung introduced the W series, but one little problem is that not so many people have been able to get their hands on this family of phones.

The latest to join the party is the Samsung W2018, the successor to last year’s W2017. This is a premium flip phone that was announced earlier this month and comes packed with top-notch hardware specs and the brightest camera of any phone. Previous Samsung flip phones have mainly been sold in China, but it seems the tech giant has other ideas with respect to the Samsung W2018 flip phone.

According to a listing on the Wi-Fi Alliance, the latest Samsung flip phone has just been cleared with model number SM-W2018X, suggesting that it could be getting ready for a release in markets other than China. Of course, it could be that the phone is simply heading out to other Asian markets and not as far as Europe or even America, but still, there are people out there who would wish to get their hands on this beauty.

Samsung W2018

Just so you know, the Samsung W2018 comes with a pair of 4.2-inch Super AMOLED display screens with full HD resolution and under the hood, you get the flagship Snapdragon 835 SoC mated with a whopping 6GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. As pointed out earlier, this Samsung flip phone has the brightest camera of any smartphone, boasting a 12MP main shooter with an aperture of f/1.5 and OIS while the front gets a 5MP selfie shooter with f/1.9 aperture.

Keeping the Samsung W2018 alive is a 2300mAh battery unit that is charged via a USB-C port. The phone also comes with dual-SIM connectivity, Bixby and runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with a promise of Oreo this coming 2018. As for the pricing, the premium flip phone is valued at a whopping CNY 15,999, which is about $2500.
