2017 Mercedes S-Class Facelift Through Maybach

Mercedes are expected to come out with the facelifted 2017 S-Class sooner rather than later.

Some of the features expected on this model has just arrived on the Maybach sedan. The Maybach range sits atop of the Mercedes line-up. The German automaker has come out with several improved elements on this new version. From the 2017 model year, buyers of the car will be able to opt for the all-wheel drive version of the Maybach through the Mercedes-Maybach S550 4Matic. Incredibly, this model is expected to be cheaper than the current version.

The existing Maybach comes with a whopping 6.0-liter V12 engine with twin turbos. However, this will be downgraded to the 4.7-liter V8 configuration with twin turbos. Apart from the monumental savings in terms of fuel economy, Maybach owners will be able to appreciate the lower pricetag although it is unlikely to be a huge concern on a vehicle that costs as much as a large house. Even with this smaller engine, Maybach is expected to hit the 0 to 60 mph figure in less than five seconds. It is understood that the quicker acceleration figures are down to the increased traction and less weight of the vehicle.

The current version of the Maybach comes at a whopping $191,000, but the upcoming 4Matic version will be significantly cheaper at $166,200. The price includes the destination charge of $925 accompanying the vehicle. The Maybach is seen as a direct competitor to the likes of the Rolls-Royce Ghostand the Bentley Flying Spur. The latter starts at $200,000 while the Rolls-Royce comes at more than $300,000 in the United States. Even though Maybach models only account for a small chunk of the S-Class sales figures in the United States, it is a very important model for Mercedes considering that they have been continuing the Maybach tradition only with this version.

The S-Class is currently sold in the S550, S550e plug-in hybrid, S600, S63 AMG, and S65 AMG variants. The vast lineup of models only gets bigger when it comes to the convertible and coupe versions. For those concerned with safety, the S600 Pullman Guard tops the list with a range of bullet proof and security options. The upcoming facelift will be extremely important to the Mercedes range given that it has to fight against the recently launched BMW 7 Series and the upcoming Audi A8. The latter is expected to boast some serious tech when it launches.
