Sony has released Android 7.0 Nougat to the Xperia X and Xperia Z series, but not all devices in these two categories have so far been updated to the new OS.
While the likes Xperia Z5, Xperia Z3+ and the Xperia Z4 Tablet have already been updated to the new Android 7.0 Nougat, the Xperia X series has only seen the standard X, X Compact, X Performance and XZ receive the new OS. As for the low-end Xperia XA, this is still a dream, but it shouldn’t be long before this changes.
According to the latest report coming from the Xperia Blog, those using the Sony Xperia XA can now enjoy a new but small software update that brings version 33.2.X.4.70 to the phone. Previously, the different variants of the Xperia XA were installed with software version 33.2.X.3.81 and like this one, the new update is still based on the 2015 Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which came pre-installed on the device out of the box.
Even though there is no Android 7.0 Nougat for Sony Xperia XA users, the new update still brings something much-needed for the low-end phone – a new Android security patch. While the update is not the latest for the month of February, it takes the phone’s security patch level from August 1, 2016, to January 5, 2017, which is without a doubt a huge improvement. It also brings the device a lot closer to the Nougat update.
Since the Xperia XA has several variants, each will get a slightly different build number once the update is installed. For those using the model numbers F3111, F3113 and F3115, your device will be updated to software build number 33.2.A.4.70. As for the ones using Sony Xperia XA with model number F3112 and F3116, which are the dual-SIM variants, will receive version 33.2.B.4.70, but the contents for both single-SIM and dual-SIM variants’ updates are the same.
The update is currently rolling out in different regions and it’s coming over the air. So make sure you download and install the update once you see a notification prompting you to do so. As for Android 7.0 Nougat update, we’ll let you when it happens.
